Few resources exist to provide support for men dealing with cancer outside our local medical community. Our mission is to support, educate and help men with cancer to rise above their disease.
We understand the difficulty you have reaching out to ask for assistance, communicating the challenges you face, and in seeking community with other men who have or are experiencing cancer.
The sport of fly fishing provides a perfect backdrop to enable our volunteers to support your need for community.
Our expense paid retreats for men with cancer offer our guests an opportunity to experience some of Idaho’s best fly fishing, scenery, solitude, and supportive company. Local on-going support activities are also available to keep you engaged with your new support community.
Most importantly… We want you to know… “You are not alone!”
Here are some of the ways we help men with cancer:
Retreats – we host 2 expense-paid Idaho fly fishing retreats for men with cancer each year, the first in mid-July and the second in early October. You can read about our retreats by visiting our EVENTS listings by clicking on Upcoming Events in 2017 in the main navigation bar. If you click on this link to our Retreat FAQs, you’ll get some additional detail on what they are like.
Ongoing Support – once you’ve attended a retreat, we just don’t disappear–if you don’t want us to, that is. We regularly hold a variety of events, from family picnics to Fly Fishing 101, a series of evening classes we hold to give interested guest alums a deeper understanding of fly fishing theory and technique. All retreat alumni are invited and, as always, these events are free of charge.
Fly Fishing – we believe that most men just don’t like gathering and sitting around to talk about their lives. They need a reason to meet and, in our opinion, there is no better reason than fly fishing. It’s healthy, it’s healing and it’s helped each of us in the organization find peace, contentment and happiness in our lives. We urge you to give it a try to see if it can do the same for you.
Building A Community – we don’t just want to host retreats and ongoing periodic meetings, we are building a community of men who can support, be supported and add value to each other’s lives. If you already have a strong support structure within your life, we are happy for you and encourage you to share with others how that positively impacts your life. If you currently don’t have a good support community, we want to help establish and develop one for you. Feel free to drop us a line here, or reach out to our Facebook community here.
