Helping Idaho Men with Cancer Find Hope, Resilience, Connection and Community.

Few resources exist to address the emotional well-being and mental health of men with cancer. That scarcity is made worse by something deeply familiar to anyone who has known a man facing a serious illness: the tendency to hide emotions, to tough things out, to withdraw rather than reach out for support. Idaho2Fly was formed to meet that need — to provide non-medical emotional and mental health support, and to build a community, for men with cancer.

Idaho2Fly provides an opportunity for men with cancer to get away from all the day-to-day worries and challenges of a cancer diagnosis by offering retreats in beautiful settings where they can experience the thrill of fly-fishing in Idaho’s most iconic waters. But our retreats aren’t just about catching fish, they’re about finding hope, healing, camaraderie, brotherhood and finding joy in spite of cancer. Men fighting cancer need more than treatment, they need connection, community and a chance to reset, restart and refocus. Supported by facilitators and fishing friends, these men learn to confront their fears, vulnerabilities, share their stories and learn to communicate openly with each other. They learn they are not alone.

“Through fire and haze appears a strong rope
thrown to me by brothers. Now there is hope.”

— Fire and Haze, a poem by retreat guest Jerry Tominaga.
