Our Mission
Supporting Men with Cancer
We understand the difficulty men have reaching out to ask for assistance, expressing concerns about challenges they face, and seeking community with other men who have or are experiencing cancer. Men fighting cancer need more than treatment, they need community and a chance to reset, restart and refocus.
Our mission is simple: Idaho2Fly uses the shared experience of fly fishing and the healing power of the outdoors to provide support and community for men with cancer using fly fishing related retreats, facilitated communication, programs and activities.
Idaho2Fly, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, offers expense paid retreats to men with cancer giving them the opportunity to experience the thrilling sport of fly fishing, enjoy Idaho’s spectacular scenery, get away from their day-to-day challenges, and gain a new outlook on life. But the retreats are not just about fishing — trained Facilitators encourage the guests to share their stories and learn to communicate openly about the frustrations, fears and trials of cancer.
Idaho2Fly incorporates therapuetic fly fishing retreats to create a powerful platform for men to navigate cancer with resilience, a sense community and renewed hope. It doesn’t end when the retreat is over, the gear is packed up and everyone has gone home. Biweekly coffee gatherings, local one-day local fishing outings and art, photography and fly fishing classes also help to keep guests engaged, supported and connected with other men facing similar challenges.
“The fishing friends, staff conversations and friendships are what I will remember. Tears were shed and my spirit healed.” — Recent Retreat Guest
Dedicated Volunteers and Generous Donors Make the Difference
Idaho2Fly has no building, no storefront, no physical home and relies entirely on the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers — volunteers with a shared commitment to the men they serve and the community they have built. Many people from every walk of life, including medical and legal professionals, trained facilitators, the fly fishing community, the business community and former retreat guests, have given sacrificially of their time, talents and resources to advance Idaho2Fly’s mission — to support men with cancer.
