Idaho2Fly Featured in Wilderness Voice Project's First Film Project
Idaho2Fly’s retreat Experience
The Spark for Currents of Courage
Currents of Courage, a Wilderness Voice Project film, is a full length documentary that features Idaho2Fly, a nonprofit organization that supports Idaho men with cancer through the sport of fly fishing, and facilitated activities and support programs. The film tells the story of seven retreat guests who were profoundly moved and changed through Idaho2Fly’s therapeutic retreat experience and group activities — each finding what medical treatment could not provide — hope, rest, renewed purpose and something they didn’t know they needed — community and the unbreakable bond of brotherhood.
Idaho2Fly has no building, no storefront, no physical home and relies entirely on the generosity of donors and the dedication of volunteers — volunteers with a shared commitment to the men they serve and the community they have built. Many people from every walk of life, including medical and legal professionals, trained facilitators, the fly fishing community, the business community and former retreat guests, give sacrificially of their time, talents and resources to advance Idaho2Fly’s mission — to support men with cancer. David Nehmer is one of these former guests. After being diagnosed with Stage 4 prostate cancer, David attended an Idaho2Fly retreat in August 2024 where he found a profound sense of hope, healing and brotherhood through the facilitated conversations, shared experiences and stories told by other men facing similar challenges. Transformed from fear to resilience, David’s Idaho2Fly retreat experience became the spark for this film.
The Production Company Behind the Film
Currents of Courage is produced by David Nehmer and directed and edited by his daughter, Christen Skinner, a two-time Emmy Award-winning editor. Named a Hot Film in the Making by the Roy W. Dean Grant, the film will have its world premiere September 17, 2026 at the Egyptian Theatre in Boise, Idaho.
How it Began
David along with his daughter, Christen Skinner presented an initial proposal to Idaho2Fly’s board to produce a short-length film documentary featuring Idaho2Fly and began filming Idaho2Fly’s retreats in August of 2025. They formed a new production company, Wilderness Voice Project, LLC and subsequently expanded their vision for the film and their mission to amplify nonprofits like Idaho2Fly by producing professional, high-impact feature-length films and content at no cost to them — all funded entirely by Wilderness Voice Project LLC through crowd-funding, community partnerships and events, national sponsorships, and grants.
Production & Promotional Updates
With filming now completed, Currents of Courage is in post-production/editing, and the World Premiere is planned for September 17, 2026 at the Egyptian Theatre in downtown Boise Idaho. From there the film will travel the national festival circuit with community screenings through national sponsors and men's health organizations.
